Ahmedabad also plans to introduce intelligent traffic management systems in the city by introducing 6281 surveillance cameras by this year-end. The cameras are backed by a AI software engine and can identify 28 traffic offences simultaneously at a traffic junction. These cameras have multi-tier data storage architecture and can track vehicle number plates across camera installed junctions in real-time and maintain a synopsis of vehicle movements.
Mumbai city will soon have a state-of-the-art traffic management system in place at 617 junctions across the city. With the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in place, Mumbai roads will see more than 4,000 new signals as well as dynamic signage, adaptive software and specialised cameras to decongest traffic & monitor violations.
The ITMS will include 4,705 new traffic signals, 300 red light violation detection (RLVD) cameras, 925 automatic number plate recognition cameras, 300 cameras to identify vehicles moving the wrong way, and 300 cameras for corner parking. The software of the ITMS will be fed traffic data, which will be used to decide and modify timings at signals. Using 1,000 new mid-block traffic monitoring cameras and an adaptive traffic control system, the ITMS will help monitor vehicles that violate traffic regulations and decongest traffic jams.
The Delhi Police will soon have an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) . The project, with an estimated cost of around Rs 1,000Cr will enhance the existing traffic system in the national capital and it will be implemented in three phases. There are plans to install a 3D radar-based Red Light Violation Detection Camera (RLVD) system at 24 junctions across the city to monitor people jumping the red light. With this project, automatic issuance of notices will be sent to traffic violators through SMS for effective prosecution. There are also plans to install gantry-mounted radar-based Over Speed Detection System at 100 locations on major roads.
Similarly, Bengaluru traffic police is getting about 350 new adaptive cameras in the next three months. Besides, the traffic police has also deployed about 1,000 cameras, 100 red-light violation detection cameras to capture and record signal jumping and 30 to 40 Number Plate Regulation (NPR) cameras with the capacity to recognise number plates from among thousands of vehicles. The police also has the software to recognise and record repeat offenders.
Catching red-light violators and managing traffic at 159 busy junctions, Chennai city is set to get automated with the Corporation getting a nod to implement Red Light Violation Detection (RVLD) system by installing ANPR cameras under the Smart City programme. The project will be executed under the intelligent traffic management system intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) for an integrated management of transport, to automate the process of traffic regulation, and to catch violators who over-speed, park illegally, or jump signals.
