The TrafficInfratech Expo 2024 continued the buzz on its third day as well with a memorable visit from Honourable Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). In his address, Shri Gadkari disclosed, “At NHAI we are already building lot of expressways and axis-controlled roads. All these developments are targeted to bring down accidents as 60% of deaths today are between age groups of 18-36 years. We are using latest technologies available across the globe for road construction and are also involving young talented engineers from India to better engineer roads and impart safety. On the law enforcement front, we are using best technology that captures the person driving along with vehicle number in cases of violations.”

MoRTH is also implementing all kinds of advanced technologies in the road safety ecosystem such as use of AI to make roads safer. Briefing about the developments at the ministry, Shri Gadkari described, “We are appointing experts from the private sector to deal health. This project will be finalized in next three months, so a system is developed that can be implemented first on major highways and later can be leveraged by respective state governments. Regarding this, our focus is on MSMEs who can provide us with consistently quality products.”

He also assured that the road safety infrastructure will see huge growth in India in the near future. Even the industry is so promising and the stakeholders have huge market for exports as well. Further, quality will play a key role as good quality will help you fetch export markets.

Delved into smart and intelligent technology and safety systems with the Conference. Having session Partner as ITS India Forum, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the development and deployment of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in India, discussed over building a roadmap to establish ITS in India. Interesting topics such as case studies from various countries, efficiency in logistics with ITS, sustainability aspect, future of smart road infrastructure, use of advanced AI, deep dive into current ATMS installations in India, ATMS implementation challenges, improvement in law enforcement, intelligent camera systems, Future of Toll infrastructure, ITS to solve urban congestion, intelligent multimodal transportation, transforming supply chain through technology, green corridor and many more.

EXCITING NEW LAUNCHES: INNOVATIONS GALORE
The third day was equally filled with exciting new launches of cutting-edge technologies for optimizing traffic, roads and overall safety infrastructure.
Here are a few glimpses:
AJS Scale International Private Limited, a transportation engineering company operating in the industry for more than three decades, has introduced a solution that helps stop fuel theft from their heavy road construction machinery and vehicles operating on Diesel fuel.

Another company, Futops Technologies India Pvt Ltd, has launched Futops Traffic System, Futops Traffic Pulse. Futops Traffic System helps to integrate with existing cameras and one stop ITMS solution.

I Cube Systems Pvt Ltd. has unveiled ezLocus – a cloud-based solution to manage parking. ezLocus is cloud based parking management application that helps business to get real-time update on the parking operations and valuable insights to make informed decision.

Some of the key challenges highlighted by Exhibitors: The top three challenges in India's traffic, road, parking, and smart mobility segments are:

  1. Limited Parking Infrastructure: Insufficient organized parking spaces lead to overcrowding, street parking, and traffic congestion around parking areas. There is no data available on parking spaces.
  2. Slow Tech Adoption: The shift to smart parking solutions like ANPR and cashless systems is slow due to infrastructure gaps, high costs, and low awareness.
  3. Regulatory Hurdles: Inconsistent policies and slow and cumbersome approval processes across various bodies leads to delay in the implementation of advanced parking technologies.
