INAGURAL SPEECH BY CHIFE GUEST YUDHVIR SINGH MALIK

  • Day 1 visitors surpass previous records
  • High interaction between Govt Heads & Stakeholders
  • Elated exhibitors overwhelmed with the response
Smart Mobility 2018 -- TrafficInfraTech along with ParkingInfraTech Expos -- got off to a flying start at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai. The 7th edition of India's premier integrated international show, supported by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, NITI Aayog and other organisations was inaugurated today by the Secretary of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Yudhvir Singh Malik. Also present at the inauguration ceremony were Ashok Katariya, Chairman, Ashoka Buildcon Ltd and Nitin Dossa, Executive Chairman, Western India Automobile Association (WIAA).

The officials from high offices, including Abhay Damle, Jt Secretary-MoRTH, J.K. Goyal CGM-Technical, NHAI; T S Venkatesan, Whole Time Director and Chief Executive (Roads & Railways), L&T; Sivaramakrishnan S-Head of Toll Systems & HTMS, L&T IDPL and others interacted & discussed solutions with the stakeholders, exhibitors and experts in the industry during the day.

"I have visited the previous edition of the TrafficInfraTech Expo at Hyderabad. I find a lot of efforts having been put to bring together all the concerned stakeholders at one place. As far as MoRTH is concerned, the sweep of its mandate is very wide. There are plans on-board to build 35,000km of NHs as a part of Bharatmala in addition to the roads which are taken up at various other programmes. During the last four years, about 8,000km long national highways have been constructed. Last year, we tested around 9,800kms, and am sure, given the pace at which the construction continues, we should be crossing 12,000km. As part of the Bharatmala initiative, now there is greater focus on not only taking isolated roads but taking a corridor and that what brings greater value to the concept of NHs," the chief guest said during his inaugural address.

"There is so much..." said the Chief Guest.

Abhay Damle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways

Technology existed but there was no appropriate platform to showcase traffic solutions. TrafficInfraTech Expo is an umbrella for displaying solutions like Highway Traffic Management, Transport Management and other related technologies. Such solutions will sensitise the policymakers and even road-users to adopt these technologies. The most important part in view of congestion and ever-increasing vehicular growth is to have an efficient technology/ solution for transport whether it is in toll collection, movement or utilisation of GPS. And the Expo has been able to put on display these solutions.
I found the interlocking temporary barriers unique, which can interlock and cover up a pot-hole. We had only heard about the alchometer, but today, I saw an interesting solution for testing the drug levels. These were good solutions, but we can enforce only when we measure. If solutions are available, it can pave a new way for enforcement.

Visitors Speak

Ravi Devaguptapu, President, FTE India

"We specialize in Road Safety solutions and are pleased to see good information in this area. We are also keen to include them in Florida. I was concerned to hear about the 150,000 fatalities in India. But there seems to be a lot of breakthrough being done and this expo seems to be very good for all the technologies under one roof. I look forward to the expo next time.
