Pune Smart City signs Mou with Tomtom for Live-Traffic Information
The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TomTom, a navigation technology company, to develop Proof of Concept (PoC) which will help improve traffic flow and empower citizens of Pune to make smarter traffic decisions. Pune Smart City SPV is amongst the very few cities in the country to have undertaken a step in this direction.
As a result of the MoU, traffic incidents, such as road congestion and closures in Pune will be monitored by TomTom’s live traffic information services. Travel time information will be displayed on Pune Smart City SPV’s variable messaging displays (VMD) at key destinations in Pune. At a later stage automated alerts on traffic incidents are also proposed to be shared with the citizens through the network of variable messaging displays installed by the Smart City. Pune Smart City’s social media channels will be also be used to proactively publish details of these traffic incidents in the near future.
PSCDCL will also consider leveraging TomTom’s tools for better traffic management operations and optimum utilization of infrastructure. A joint working group of specialists including technical specialists will be formed for project implementation. Allied Digital, a partner of TomTom, will be undertaking the system integration for PSCDCL for the proof of concept.

Manojit Bose, Chief Knowledge Officer PSCDCL was quoted saying, ‘As part of PSCDCL’s digital strategy over and above investments in assets, building a network of niche technology providers and research institutes is a key component. This MoU is a step towards that.’
