Odisha CM inaugurated Smart Cities projects in Bhubaneswar

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik recently inaugurated four smart city projects in Bhubaneswar.

Some of the projects are Bhubaneswar Operation Centre. The first-of-its-kind centralised command & control centre will monitor and operate existing services in the city. The centre will control functioning of adaptive traffic signal system, movement of buses and municipal vehicles, city surveillance, incident management and monitoring of emergency and disaster management services. It will also keep an eye on grievance redress system. The centre will provide a digital platform to integrate multiple city sub-systems including parking, public transport, and common payment card.

Besides, the intelligent and IT-based signal system comes with Adaptive Traffic Signal System with provisions of pelican signals and blinkers. It will ensure improved travel time reliability, reduction in congestion and faster response to traffic conditions. It will also provide timely emergency support and prediction of traffic volumes, including adjustment to signal timings among others. The new system will become operational at 50 intersections. Eight pelican system for pedestrians and five blinkers have become operational in various parts of the city.

An Integrated Public Service Centre will have facilities such as utility bill payment counter, dispensary, community group space, ward office, multipurpose hall, library and reading room. The centre will address social and urban services needs of the neighbourhoods.
