On Road Parking in Dehradun

Parking becoming a major problem for Dehradun, the PSU Bridge, Ropeway, Tunnel and other Infrastructure Development Corporation of Uttarakhand Limited (BRIDCUL) has been given the responsibility to manage roadside paid parking system to be introduced in the crowded places of the city. The system would soon be introduced in a few days in several areas which are bearing the brunt of the haphazard parking- triggered traffic problems.

The vehicles would be allowed to be parked on the unused space beyond the white line drawn to mark the edge of the roads in the crowded places where the traffic pressure is heavy. “On Road Street Parking (ORSP) as envisaged by us would hopefully go a long way in freeing the roads in the bustling market places of the problem of traffic congestion. At the same time, it would bring revenue as it is a paid parking facility, said “Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic Lokeshwar Singh.

Another effort which is also on trial is Intelligent Traffic Light System (ITLS).
The technology used in ITLS is the sensor system type. When the traffic on one side is high the system would signal it to stop and let the one on the other side which is lighter to move. As per the prevailing system, the traffic light time limit is being fixed by the persons who man them manually. Things are naturally not as perfect as they should be. Now, the new technology-fed system has been put on trial at Niranjanpur Mandi areas and the feedback is good.
